The Newfoundland Regiment scored in overtime to nip the Rouyn Noranda Huskies 3-2 in Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League action in St. John’s last night.
Louis Francois Belanger scored just a minute-and-a-half in to give the home team the victory. Local Ben Veitch had one of the assists on that goal, and also helped set up the Regiment’s first goal, which was scored by Dmitry Kubantsev.
Alexis Michaud tied it up halfway through the third period, setting the stage for the OT winner.
The two teams will be back at it this afternoon at The Mary Brown’s Centre with puck drop at 3:00.
