Winter is coming, and the Social Justice Co-Op NL is holding a rally today to call for better sidewalk snow clearing once the first flakes start to accumulate.
The group says the city currently only clears about 12 per cent of its sidewalks, which are only along priority bus routes and school zones.
Representative Michelle LeClair says proper snow clearing is an issue that affects everyone.
“…whether they have to walk to get to work, get groceries, or if they are just heading out for their own mental health.”
She says people are being forced to stay inside for months on end because they can’t access their community.
The rally is taking place outside City Hall from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., during the regular council meeting.
