The Liberal MHA for Cartwright-L’Anse au Clair says she’s “shocked and disappointed” an isolated community in her district was left out of the recent home heating subsidy being provided to residents of seven coastal communities in Labrador.
A point-of-sale subsidy will be provided to residents of Nain, Natuashish, Hopedale, Makkovik, Rigolet, and Postville in the district of Torngat Mountains, and Black Tickle in Cartwright L’Anse au Clair.
Dempster calls Norman Bay one of Labrador’s “most vulnerable and isolated communities.”
In the 2021 census, there were 15 people living in the community, which has no road access and is only accessible by snowmobile in the winter months.
Dempster says she’s shocked that the people of Norman Bay were left out of the provincial government’s latest affordability announcement.
