First Light has launched a new toolkit to help support municipalities in terms of truth and reconciliation.
The document, called Pathways to Decolonized Governance, gives communities what they call a “practical and adaptable framework” that can be used in policy-related decisions, especially those in their early stages.
First Light says the toolkit was guided by the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and is designed to ensure people’s rights, knowledge systems and priorities are respected.
It includes a self-assessment checklist and a quick-reference guide for elected officials.
Several cities across the country contributed to the toolkit, including the city of St. John’s.
