A Newfoundlander who attended the School for the Deaf is making big waves in Washington, DC.
27-year-old Graham Forsey has been living in the US capital for the last four years. He is the President of the Washington Association for the Deaf and is a member of the US National Association.
Forsey was among a group of deaf and hard of hearing people who sued the Whitehouse arguing that the lack of a sign language interpreter at President Donald Trump’s virus updates violates the First Amendment.
A federal judge issued a temporary order this week, calling on the White House to provide ASL interpreters for its COVID-19 briefings.
The lawsuit was filed after repeated requests for sign language interpreters at all public health briefings at the White House.
Graham’s dad, Rod Forsey says his son has always embraced advocacy when living away from home. Graham has naturally moved toward advocating for others including the deaf and the visually impaired. Forsey says his son is also a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement in Washington.
