The House of Assembly reopens today to table and debate another interim supply bill amid speculation that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians could be going to the polls in the near future.
The opposition parties say they will not support a three-month interim supply, which government says is necessary in order to take the September 30 budget through debate and the estimates committee process.
Premier Andrew Furey calls the three-month interim supply a “prudent, responsible measure” to allow robust debate on the budget. He also hinted the time frame is in place in case the opposition parties vote interim supply down, forcing a general election.
He believes it’s the best scenario to allow healthy, robust budget debate, and should the opposition parties reject the bill, then government services can continue through an election period.
Both the PCs and Liberal Party have started the nomination process in various districts throughout the province.
