It’s hoped that Memorial University, which has seen great success in the past in recruiting international students, will once again lead the charge on attracting immigration to the province.
COVID-19 has resulted in some major changes this year, including a move to online course offerings.
That means the university is attracting more Newfoundland and Labrador students who would normally have left the province to seek their post-secondary education elsewhere.
International students, who are not already living in the province, will have to pursue their studies from afar.
MUN President Vianne Timmins understands how vital international students are, both to the province and the university, and they are working to ensure their international students are supported as much as possible.
She says international students add to the richness of the campus experience and contribute greatly to the local economy.
