Construction headaches have made this summer a memorable one for residents of Paradise.
Multiple projects throughout the season have caused and are continuing to cause some big delays for commuters.
While not ideal for residents, Mayor Dan Bobbett says the work is necessary.
He says there is a short construction season. Paradise is receiving funding from the provincial and federal government through multi-year capital funding. Bobbett says as a growing municipality, they need to keep up with infrastructure and sometimes there are timelines associated with that funding.
Work on the roundabout at Topsail Road and McNamara Drive is expected to wrap up at the end of September or early October. He says delays in the area can be cut down if residents would zipper merge.
Mayor Bobbett says it’s 40 per cent more efficient to zipper merge than it is to not let people in. He says it works everywhere and it can work here too if people would get into the mindset and understand the concept.
Drivers can expect more traffic delays as roadwork will begin on Topsail Road between the Kenmount Road off-ramp and Carlisle Drive this morning.
The work will include completion of curb, gutter and sidewalk along with road patching. Expect traffic slowdowns between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily and lane closures between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m..
