A woman living in St. John’s housing is airing her frustrations about a leak in her apartment that has not been fixed for over eight months.
Donna Barter first moved into St. John’s housing back in March.
She discovered a leak in her ceiling shortly after moving in and called the city to take a look at it.
Following an investigation, the city found that the leak was coming in from outside. Just before summer, they informed Barter that it would be fixed, but that it would be a long process.
Barter says the leak was largely left unattended, and three weeks ago part of the ceiling started to come down.
City workers came in and removed a section of the ceiling, but the leak has still not been fixed, leaving the tenant in a difficult situation.
The leak is located directly above her heater, which she can no longer use because of the leak.
Barter says she doesn’t have anything bad to say about St. John’s housing, noting they have been very good to her, but the situation has been dragging on for so long now that she doesn’t know what to do.
She just wants to have the leak fixed so she can live in a comfortable, warm space, and not have to worry about water getting in her heater and catching her apartment on fire.
