A scam website using a venerable adventure tour name in the province is trying to fleece would-be kayakers.
Stan Cook Sea Kayak Tours hung up the oars last year after four decades of exploring the coast off the Northeast Avalon, but a new website bearing their name claims falsely that they are still in operation and is taking bookings.
Stan Cook Jr. says from the broken language on the site, it’s possible the site isn’t even being run from Canada, let alone locally. He’s looking to get it taken down.
The site is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors, mixed with copy from Stan Cook Sea Kayak Adventures advertising.
Cook says he’s enlisted legal council to attempt a cease and desist to stop using his and his father’s name to offer tours that don’t exist.
In the meantime, Cook wants it known that stancook.ca has nothing to do with them, and you should beware of giving them any financial information.
