It’s looking as though Marble Mountain won’t be opening on Thursday as scheduled, but they are still aiming to have the slopes open later this month.
Owing to unseasonably warm temperatures, inside operations manager at Marble, Richard Wells, says the weather hasn’t been cooperative over the last few weeks and they haven’t been able to turn on their snow guns.
He notes that “anything could happen” weather-wise, but they are aiming to have the mountain open in a couple of weeks.
It takes about three weeks to blanket the mountain, so they are looking at a “very rough” target date of January 21.
Due to the pandemic, the skiing experience will look a little different when the mountain does open.
He says every day their plans and policies are developing, and although indoor facilities will be open, they will be encouraging everyone to stay outside as much as possible.
They are hoping to practice a “direct to lift mindset” whereby people get out of their cars and go straight to the ski lift.
