Reports of camera-wielding cars have popped up across the province this summer, with a major company getting ready to launch an update to their map-viewing service.
Sightings have emerged from the metro area this week of cars bearing the ‘Apple Maps’ logo, with fancy camera rigs on top.
According to Apple, crews have been deployed across the country to collect data and images of roadways, signage and landmarks from May to November. They plan on publishing the information collected in a future update.
They’re working to improve map coverage of many locations across the island and in Labrador West.
Google updated many of its local maps in a similar fashion just this year, while services like TomTom have also deployed vehicles to key locations across the province.
