Health officials say they intend on examining all potential options for COVID-19 vaccines.
As vaccine rollouts continue across the world, other contenders have been coming out with products that could potentially be approved.
The reported effectiveness of some of those vaccines are much less than the Moderna and Pfizer products.
According to the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Janice Fitzgerald, a vaccine with a 60 per cent effectiveness is better than no effectiveness.
She explains we have seen vaccines with varying degrees of effectiveness used against the flu, and it has shown that it does still help reduce spread.
However, Dr. Fitzgerald says the effectiveness rate does have to be considered during the process.
She says it’s a weighing of risks and benefits, but if Health Canada deems the vaccine safe then they will use it.
