A controversial development in the capital city’s downtown has been taken off the table.
The city of St. John’s sent out a tweet earlier this afternoon stating that the Anglican Diocese has withdrawn its application for approval of a new building design for a proposed annex on to the Anglican Cathedral on Church Hill.

Many concerns were raised about the development.
Some people were concerned about the modern design of the building not fitting in with surrounding infrastructure. As well, many raised concerns that the proposed site of the annex is located on top of some of the oldest consecrated ground in the province, potentially the location of thousands of unmarked graves.
There is no information yet as to why the application was withdrawn.
