The English School District is suspending in-class instruction for all St. John’s-metro high schools for at least two days.
That includes schools with grades 7, 8 and 9 that have any high school students.
The announcement came out late last night as Public Health expands its contact tracing into other school populations.
Schools affected are Gonzaga High, Horizon Academy, Holy Heart High, Holy Spirit High, HolyTrinity High, Mount Pearl Senior High, O’Donel High, Prince of Wales Collegiate, Queen Elizabeth High, St. Kevin’s High, St. Michael’s High, and Waterford Valley High.
All school staff, with the exception of staff at Mount Pearl Senior High, are to report for work to begin planning for online instruction.
St. Bon’s a private K-12 in St. John’s, is closing for the rest of the week following the announcement from the English School District as well as École Rocher-du-Nord will be closed today and tomorrow.
Lakecrest has closed for the day.
Public Health is advising students from all metro schools with high school grades to remain home and limit their contacts to their households.
As contact tracing continues, Public Health will contact those individuals that need to isolate.
An announcement with how the schools are to proceed will be made on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, New Special Measures Orders are now in place, including the immediate temporary suspension of all sporting and recreational group activities in the metro region.
New measures are also in place in seniors homes and long-term care facilities limiting visitation to two people per resident and the suspension of all group and outside activities for long-term care and seniors’ homes.
The City of St. John’s is going to make a decision today on its recreation programs. All such facilities in the city are closed today.
