FISH-NL is calling for an independent offshore environmental authority following the third oil spill in the region in less than a year.

President Ryan Cleary says it’s becoming clear that the C-NLOPB cannot protect the offshore environment. He says the C-NLOPB found out about the latest spill from the Hibernia platform through the media. That alone, says Cleary, indicates that something’s wrong.

Cleary envisions an independent authority with the sole focus being environmental protection.

He says it’s critical that the environment be front and centre.
