More new Canadians are choosing to stay in Newfoundland and Labrador long term.
Jim Murphy, director of language services for the Association for New Canadians, says more new comers are deciding to stay in the province instead of moving to bigger cities.
He explains the reasons why more people are choosing Newfoundland and Labrador as their forever home, saying new arrivals are able to find connections with others who have similar backgrounds.
He has noticed more people sponsoring their families to the province.
This, says Murphy, creates a support network that may not have been there before.
