Early childhood educators and childcare operators are hoping answers to questions surrounding the operation of childcare centres will be forthcoming if and when any further changes are made to alert levels.
Katie O’Brien is the administrator of The Children’s Centre, a not-for-profit child care centre in the St. John’s area that’s been in operation for more than half a century.
She says child care centres learned at the same time as everyone else that the province was moving into Alert Level 5, but unlike March, the information surrounding the impact on child care was not made clear.
In March they were forced to shut down, but this time around, child care centres stayed open to accommodate essential workers.
O’Brien says they were left with no clear direction on things like capacity and other issues.
