Much of Newfoundland is getting a predicted blast of winter today.
As of late Sunday afternoon, almost 20 centimetres of snow had fallen on the St. John’s metro region with more expected throughout the day.
The west coast and central parts of the island are also under snowfall warnings. Totals will be in the range of 15 to 25 centimetres by the time the system tapers off to flurries later this evening.
The snow will also be accompanied by strong southeasterly winds gusting to 70 or 80 kilometres an hour, resulting in reduced visibility across the island.
