One of the most popular softball fields in St. John’s is getting a new name at a star-studded tournament happening this weekend.
The first annual Slo-Pitch Softball tournament will play Victoria Park this Saturday, with both the game and ball field to be named for Alexander “Duey” Fitzgerald, who passed away last year.
Fitzgerald is an iconic seven-time sports Hall of Famer and grew up and playing softball in Victoria Park.
VOCM Cares has stepped up to the plate along with the Williams Family Foundation, Pennecon, DC Design House and the Lewis, Sinnott, Fitzgerald Law Firm to help add $32,000 to the Victoria Park renewal project
St. John’s Mayor Danny Breen, Mark Critch, and Allan Hawco are some of the local stars playing ball this weekend. The official naming of the field will take place during the tournament.
