The province’s top doctor is crediting and thanking the “remarkable women” across the province’s health care system in getting the province through the pandemic, on this International Women’s Day.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald is “humbled” after being honoured with the Woman of Distinction Award from the YWCA.
She credited the many women working in the health care system for their work in the province’s COVID-19 response.
She says while she may be the face of the province’s pandemic response, there are thousands of women who have contributed to Newfoundland and Labrador’s efforts and success.
“Women are on the front lines in the community and acute care, as well as in senior leadership roles in all the regional health authorities,” says Fitzgerald. She acknowledged the Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for Public Health, as well as the Deputy Minister “who has been supporting us through this pandemic since before Day One.”
She also thanked the “amazing women” on her core Public Health team with whom she has the pleasure and privilege of working.
