Municipal workers in Happy Valley-Goose Bay have applied for conciliation after contract negotiations reached an impasse.
Merv Linstead, the President of CUPE Local 2019 which represents some 54 municipal workers in the town, says the latest round of bargaining has been a long and frustrating process.
He claims the union offered the town’s negotiating team over 100 dates to meet to bargain in 2019 and 2020, but the town kept stalling.
He says negotiations didn’t finally begin until October of 2020 and now they’ve reached an impasse.
The union’s collective agreement expired on December 31 of 2018.
