The City of St. John’s has its top 10 list of riskiest roads to drive, walk or bike along. Now they’re on the hunt for outside consultants to recommend how to make those areas safer.
$100,000 was earmarked in this week’s capital budget for the deeper analysis.
Ian Froude, council’s lead on transportation, says it’s routine to outsource such work.
He says it’s normal to seek external help for work that goes beyond the scope of the city’s own staff, and not feasible to have all that specific expertise in-house all the time.
Recommendations from the next report are expected within a year.
Physical changes at the more notorious intersections, such as Rawlins Cross and Thorburn at Goldstone, could begin in 2022.
