The case involving 10 correctional officers charged in the death of a Labrador man at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary has been delayed until at least mid-April.
In fact, all in-person matters at Provincial Court continue to be postponed for at least a month. However, the courts are continuing with phone and videoconference for people in jail with charges pending.
None of the 10 correctional officers are in custody, and they’ve yet to appear in court. They remain free on conditions to keep the peace and have no contact with each other.
The guards face charges ranging from criminal negligence causing death to manslaughter in connection with the death of 33-year-old Jonathan Henoche, an Inuk man from Happy Valley-Goose Bay.
He died in November 2019 at the Pen while awaiting trial for the murder of 88-year-old Regula Schule.
The case against the guards will be called again on April 12.
