Another sizeable shipment of COVID-19 vaccines is slated to arrive in Canada starting in about 10 days.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced today that about 1-million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine will arrive per week from March 22 to May 10.
That stock is in addition to the other vaccines on order for Canada. Trudeau says the Pfizer stock will make a “big difference” as the country continues its vaccination rollout plan.
Pfizer’s vaccine is just one of four that has received Health Canada’s approval. About 850,000 doses of Moderna’s vaccine are also anticipated to arrive on the week of March 22.
Health Officials say No Indication AstraZeneca Caused Adverse Reactions
Public Health officials in this province are following very closely reports of adverse reactions associated with the AstraZeneca vaccine in Europe.
Denmark and Norway have suspended the use of the vaccine after some 30 cases of blood clots were reported among 5-million people who received the vaccine.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says at this time there is no indication that the vaccine caused those events.
Canada has not received any of the batches currently under investigation, says Fitzgerald, and indications are that the adverse reactions have not happened in vaccinated people more than would be seen in the general population.
The European Medicines Agency announced on Thursday that there is no indication that the AstraZeneca vaccine caused the incidents which are not listed as side effects of the vaccine. It went on to say that the vaccine’s benefits outweigh its risks and investigation continues.
