A local filmmaker is reflecting on the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has left on her family.
Mary Sexton produced a short documentary about how her family was affected by the pandemic, entitled “Me, Mom, and COVID.”
Sexton’s 97-year-old mother passed away mere weeks before the pandemic struck. Sexton says over 500 people passed through to pay their respects. Reflecting on what would happen with the funeral home cluster a few weeks later, she is grateful that they had the opportunity to give her mom such a send-off.
The pandemic has also had profound impacts for her sister, Edwina.
She explains that her sister has a mental disability and thinks that once she gets the vaccine, life will immediately return to normal. She doesn’t crush that optimism but tempers it by saying she needs to be patient. Edwina lives in a care home and while her sister has good days, there are moments where she is lonely too.
