The Federal Minister of Health is allaying fears surrounding the AstraZeneca vaccine.
Some European countries are suspending the use of the vaccine over blood clots experienced by some patients. However, Minister Patty Hajdu says the vaccines Canada received from the company were not from the same batch as those in Europe.
Hajdu says they have no reported cases of significant adverse effects of the vaccination. She says people hear the name and assume it’s the same batch, but data collected from Canada’s vaccines suggest there is no risk.
Hajdu also addressed the possibility of a “vaccine passport,” which would require proof of vaccination for international travel.
She says Canada is making sure they’re at the table for these discussions.
Hajdu says she understands some people may think the government is overreaching, however, she just wants to ensure that if the world decides to go this way, Canada is prepared.
