The Charted Professional Accountants of Canada has been seeking an extension to the deadline to file taxes this year due to the pandemic situation.
Doug Kirby is a CPA and the President of DMK in St. John’s. He says many parts of the country have been under strict lockdown conditions which have made it very difficult to file taxes on time.
Kirby cites the recent situation in provinces like Ontario, Quebec, and Alberta where COVID numbers have resulted in lengthy and strict lockdown conditions.
He says in many cases, people have been unable to leave their homes, even to check their own mail. CPA Canada thinks it’s unfair to anyone in those circumstances to be expected to have their taxes filed by April 30.
