A local privacy consultant says Canadians should be pleased after the CRA recently locked some 800,000 people out of their online accounts.
Dave Morgan of Morgan Privacy Consulting says the Canada Revenue Agency’s move was a prudent one after learning that certain MyAccount usernames and passwords may have been up for sale on the dark web.
Morgan says the move was not as the result of a privacy breach through CRA, but through regular monitoring conducted by the Canada Revenue Agency.
He says CRA is not actually saying they found the information on the dark web, but people should be happy that the agency is looking out for potential vulnerabilities and locking out accounts they think might be compromised.
