Many downtown businesses will again be allowed to expand their frontage onto sidewalks and parking spaces without impeding traffic this summer.
The so-called “parklet” program is primarily for outdoor patios and lounges, but can also be used to sell merchandise.
This year it will also include businesses in Churchill Square.
The city is waiving all application and permit fees for businesses that qualify for the program, which runs from May 22 to October 31.
The idea is separate from the city’s controversial pedestrian mall. Recommendations on how that will look this year will be made public during Wednesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
