Goodbye spring and hello winter.
The weather has been spectacular this past week or so but that is coming to an end this weekend.
A winter storm will hit a good chunk of the island including the northeast, central Newfoundland, the east coast, and the Avalon Peninsula. The southernmost strip of the island will be spared heavy snowfall but will endure high winds.
Central gets 10-15 cm tonight and another 10-15 cm tomorrow, the east coast is in for 15 cm tonight and another 15 cm tomorrow and the Avalon will have 5-10 cm tonight and 15 cm tomorrow, as well as some ice mixed in.
Mike Vandenberg, a meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, says winds switch around to the northeast. Winds will be gusting to about 70 km/h on Saturday, creating blowing snow.
Vandenberg says Sunday looks tame but Monday will bring us another stormy system.
The winds on Monday look to be stronger than the 70 km/h much of the island will experience tomorrow. There will be snow but it may change to rain in some places.
