The new government will take office this week. Premier Andrew Furey wouldn’t nail down the day but did say that the swearing-in will happen this week but not on Friday.
Had it been scheduled for tomorrow, notice probably would have been given by now so the likely day is Thursday.
His new cabinet, which is expected to closely resemble the current one, will also be sworn in at that time.
Meanwhile, Furey says the Greene report on economic recovery will be finished by the end of this month.
He says they have to be developing measured, responsible, and balanced medium and long-term measures to get us out of the mess we’re in.
Furey says people understand that Newfoundland and Labrador is in a tough fiscal spot and it has to be strategic—not from the side of the hip and trying to correct everything in one fell swoop because that will make it worse.
