All four regional health authorities are holding AstraZeneca vaccination clinics over the next couple of weeks, but most spaces in Eastern Health have already been taken after just one day.
Clinics in the eastern region will be running in Holyrood, Carbonear, Bonavista, and St. John’s for people age 55-64. According to Eastern Health, Bonavista is the only area left with a few appointments left.
Anyone who was wishing to be vaccinated had to book either online or by telephone but it was overwhelmed from the beginning by people trying to book.
Numerous calls to VOCM and Open Line with Paddy Daly details peoples frustrations and issues such as calling 70+ times. One woman had over 700 people ahead of her to book by phone.
Meanwhile, a woman in metro was having trouble registering for a vaccination for her 76-year-old mother and said that’s when she decided to take her mother to the vaccination clinic in Mundy Pond without an appointment.
She told a security guard about the situation, who then escorted her to a health official where she presented the health card and her mom got the shot yesterday. Eastern Health does not recommend trying that.
