The province’s minister of health says pharmacists may be used in the vaccine rollout, but at the moment there is not enough supply to warrant their inclusion.
Minister John Haggie says there are way more people to administer vaccines in rotating clinics than they can deliver vaccines to. He says that will change at some point and they will enlist the help of pharmacists and physicians if need be.
If the anticipated number of AstraZeneca doses are received, then they will have more options going forward.
Haggie says that it is a supply issue. On a good week, the province receives 21,000 doses of mRNA vaccine and an unpredictable amount of AstraZeneca vaccines, which hasn’t been stressing the Public Health system.
As more doses become available, Haggie says he looks forward to working with pharmacists, physicians, and paramedics in the vaccine rollout.
