Seniors and young people in the metro area will soon have the opportunity to enrich their lives through a new initiative being rolled out by Old School Intergenerational projects.
Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program has awarded nearly $24,000 to the folks at Old School and they aren’t letting the funds go to waste.
Co-founders Erin Windsor and Claire Rouleau have been busy acquiring a 2008 Bluebird school bus to be retrofitted. Once the overhaul is complete, the space will accommodate live performances, art workshops, and other skill-sharing events aimed at improving the lives of seniors and young people.
Rouleau says linking the two demographics brings rewards for both age groups.
Rouleau says the project could be a highlight for a senior who is living in care but rarely sees visitors, or it may enrich the outlook of a teenager who doesn’t have grandparents. She says the benefits are real and they see them all the time at Old School Intergenerational Projects.
The group aims to have the show on the road by the end of this year.
