Members of the Royal Canadian Legion from across the province will gather at the 66th Provincial Convention of the Royal Canadian Legion in Grand Falls-Windsor this week.
Dan Devine, an organizer with the group in Grand Falls-Windsor, says the bi-annual event takes place at a different legion every two years and it has taken them those two years to prepare.
He says the main goal for the event is to make sure all legions in the province are on the same page. He says the conventions are completed on a national level first then they work on each province separately .
He says the convention allows the members to focus on their main goal which is remembrance but the legion does other things too, like looking after veterans in their communities. So, that is also talked about at the convention.
The convention begins this afternoon for members and Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, Brian Warr, will lay a wreathe on behalf of the provincial government and bring greetings at the event.
The event will continue until Wednesday, Aug. 28.
