The House of Assembly has voted to ditch an independent report recommending an increase in the salaries we pay our MHAs.
Bill 10, introduced by Government House Leader Steve Crocker this morning, continues the freeze on salaries.
Independent MHA Eddie Joyce supported the motion but says it’s meaningless if no cuts are made to address the deficit. He points specifically to the salaries made within government Agencies, Boards, and Commissions.
An MHA’s base salary is about $95,000.
He points out that they did the same thing back in 2016 when the Liberals won government, and nobody noticed. If they’re not going to follow the advice of an independent committee, he wonders why they even have such a committee.
