The city of St. John’s says they will be working with involved groups to educate children on the safest way to get to the new Mews Centre when it is completed in 2023.
Concerns have been raised from some that children may be enticed to walk across the pond in the winter to get to the new location faster for their after-school programs, not realizing the inherent dangers of walking across any body of water that may appear to be frozen.
Councillor Jamie Korab says the main concern is in regard to children from St. Teresa’s Elementary trying to get to their after-school programs at the Boys and Girls Club located in the facility.
He explains that the city has had extensive consultations with that organization, and they will be working with parents and others like the RNC on how to get kids there safely.
