Members of the community came out to speak for those who can not do the same in their home country.
A peaceful march in solidarity for Kashmir left Bannerman Park and made its way to City Hall at noon on Saturday to bring awareness to the ongoing issues in Kashmir, India.
On August 5, the Indian Government revoked Article 370 removing Kashmir’s autonomy, and split the state into two union territories, both controlled by India.
Nabila Qureshi, who organized the march says that it was an undemocratic process as the people of Kashmir were not consulted. She says the government blocked communication and that she was unable to reach her family for 11 days.
She says that not everyone has been lucky enough to make contact at all.
Meanwhile, at Bannerman park another group of people from the community stood apart from the marchers. They say they feel differently about the situation in Kashmir.
The group, dressed in white say they believe the Indian Government is taking the right steps to protect people and give them equal rights.
