Canada Post has launched a nationwide campaign reminding dog owners to keep their pets secured while carriers are on their routes.
While most door-to-door delivery was eliminated in this province, carriers still deliver packages.
Local CUP-W representative Craig Dyer says while many dogs are not a problem, there have been some serious incidents.
A few years ago a dog attacked a carrier in the west end of the capital city. The carrier was okay, but later that day the dog bit a child and had to be put down.
One carrier ended up in hospital and was off for an extended period of time after being knocked down over some steps by a dog.
It’s not all bad though, Dyer says carriers do get to know the dogs in their neighbourhood.
He says there was a dog in the Central part of the city called “Lucky” that would join the carrier on their route everyday, and another in Mount Pearl called “Blue” that had to be petted before he would let the carrier onto his property.
