Opposition Leader David Brazil is continuing to pressure government for answers regarding access to provincial helicopters for the RNC and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department.
Brazil says both the Constabulary and Fire Department have indicated that lives are at risk because they do not have the ability to properly respond to an emergency.
Even more alarming says Brazil is that both agencies have noted the absence of protocols and clear roles and responsibilities.
Brazil noted that rescuers waited three hours in Flatrock this week for a Cormorant helicopter to arrive from Gander, yet Provincial Aerospace, with advanced surveillance planes and infrared cameras were just minutes away.
He says leadership is needed to “fix this critical issue.”
