The Canadian Coast Guard will be breaking ice near Cartwright today.

They say there are inherent risks that come with icebreaking, noting that they cannot maintain total control of the ice. As well, the icebreaker will be leaving an open water track in the ice.

As such, they are asking the public not to walk on the ice and to remove any equipment prior to the beginning of the icebreaking.
