The Mayor of Conception Harbour says warning signs around cliff sides in Bacon Cove are something the town council needs to seriously look at after a woman fell to her death over the weekend.
A 64-year-old woman was found dead near the shore in the community on Saturday. She is believed to have lost her footing and fell while walking near the cliff.
Mayor Craig Williams says the area is all cliffs and accidents can happen. He says there are no warning signs around.
Williams says once you leave the roadway there are several guard rails for vehicle traffic, but nothing for pedestrians. He says the road is extremely close to the cliffs, as the cliff being only about two to three feet passed the guard rails.
To his knowledge, nothing like this has ever happened and residents are in shock.
Williams will now bring the idea of warning signs to his town council but says its definitely something they need to look at.
He says the land close to the cliffs is private property, so they’ll have to work with the land owners to put up something.
