Great works can be born from tragedy. That’s what Erin Gallant has tried to do with the Spirit Horse Program and Stable Life.
Sunday was the fifth annual Spirit Horse Day. An event that Gallant created to celebrate the life of Alison Walsh.
Walsh lost her battle with mental illness when she died from suicide six years ago this week.
Gallant is hoping to expand Stable Life by purchasing an nine-acre plot of land located behind her property. She was giving walking tours of the land as one of the events on Sunday, encouraging people to walk the land and see where the money will go and the value of it for themselves.
The land will cost around $100,000 so she is looking for corporate sponsors and also raising funds through a GoFundMe campaign. They have currently raised over $15,000 with the campaign.
Gallant herself suffers from mental illness, so she has used her and Alison’s shared love of horses to help other people with mental illness.
The Spirit Horse program is a peer support group that includes interactive activities with horses and people struggling with mental health.
