The family of Tony “Phonse” Fowlow says the response from the community to their GoFundMe has been overwhelming.
Tony Fowlow worked at the Glacier for years and did everything from maintenance to driving the Zamboni. In December he suffered a stroke which affected his speech and the movement on his left side.
He was placed in a long-term care facility earlier this month after spending four months in hospital. His family is hoping to purchase a lift chair to help him stand and transfer to a wheelchair.
As of Wednesday morning, the GoFundMe page had already raised over $19,000 for the cause, far surpassing the $1,000 goal.
Mandy White, Tony’s niece, started the Go Fund Me and says they can’t believe the far-reaching support for her uncle. She says the family is overwhelmed and cannot believe the outpouring of love and support for Tony.
As for the impact Fowlow had on the community, White says hockey can be an expensive sport, and if a child couldn’t afford equipment, Fowlow would go out and find used equipment for them.
