The province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health says all options are on the table when it comes to mitigating the effects of the COVID surge being seen in the rest of the country.
Public health has recorded four separate COVID-19 variants in the last months. Three of those are variants of concern, making up approximately 83 per cent of our total case count.
Dr. Janice Fitzgerald says they are looking at ways they can increase testing to strengthen our border measures, but they are taking their time in order to figure out the logistics and to make sure they do things right.
She says they are weighing all options and says more information may be available in the coming days, but they are “looking at everything at this point.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Fitzgerald believes Marine Atlantic has adequate protocols in place to properly mitigate the outbreak in Nova Scotia.
Nova Scotia is currently in a province-wide lockdown due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Fitzgerald says the government has testing protocols in place for workers on the ferries. Therefore, she thinks they have good protocols in place to protect people.
