A date for a disciplinary hearing is expected to be set in July for a Newfoundland woman accused of funneling $775,000 from six elderly clients into her own accounts.
Joan McCarthy, a former Investment Advisor in the St. John’s area, is accused of falsifying signatures and appropriating funds from her clients’ accounts, as well as failing to cooperate with an investigation by the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.
An investigation was launched in June of 2019 into incidents alleged to have taken place between 2006 and 2019.
McCarthy is accused of forging the signatures of clients to draw funds and deposit them into her personal account.
The IIROC says despite numerous attempts, McCarthy has failed to reply to its Enforcement Staff’s interview requests.
An appearance has been scheduled for July 15 before a Hearing Panel of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada at which time a date is expected to be set for McCarthy’s disciplinary hearing.
