The leader of the Opposition says the provincial government needs to be more proactive and less reactive when it comes to road repair.
David Brazil was responding to the Auditor General’s report which revealed government did not implement recommendations made to improve the province’s roadways.
Brazil points to Bennett’s Road in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s as an example of road conditions throughout the province. The potholes have since been filled, but Brazil claims many drivers lost their tires on the stretch of road within the last week.
He points to the proposed tracking system as something that could have a big impact, citing the ability for citizens to better report where potholes are.
Brazil calls that an easy way for people to let the government know where the problems are so that the proactive approach could be better than the reactive.
Crews returned to the scene on Bennett’s Road yesterday after Brazil invited reporters to see the job done on filling a massive pothole in the area. Bags of fill could clearly be seen sticking out from a layer of pavement over the hole.
