An MHA in Labrador has another health care horror story in the Big Land.
Peter Penashue says his young grandson was rushed to hospital from Sheshatshiu to Happy Valley-Goose Bay in the backseat of his mother’s vehicle, a 30-kilometre trip. By the time they arrived at the hospital, Penashue—a former MP—says the boy was barely able to breathe.
Torngat Mountains MHA Lela Evans says it’s unacceptable that the family was not provided access to emergency medical transportation. She also says that the youth waited for another 11.5 hours awaiting triage.
The boy is being medevaced to St. John’s.
Evans is calling for an investigation into the incident to determine what went wrong and how it can be prevented in the future. She says Labradorians are not provided the same level of medical care as the island, a situation which she sees as unacceptable.
My grandson is feeling a lot better this evening. He is waiting to be medivaced out to St. John's for surgery. He has air in his lungs which will have to dealt with before he can fully recover, according to the doc. All this boy wants is a fair fight when it comes to health serv pic.twitter.com/B0EYdqQ5Mn
