The province’s Finance Minister says that the consultation process following the release of the Greene report will hold a “tremendous amount of weight” in determining how the province will proceed.
Siobhan Coady attests that she has not seen the report, and that government will receive their copy at the same time the public does.
She says government will need to take some time to review the document, and ultimately it is important for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to do the same and make their own determinations about what the future of the province should look like.
Coady believes that the release of the report could be a transformative moment for the province.
She references the report sparking controversy, comment, and discussion and says that is a good thing for the province because we will be addressing concerns that have been had here for a long time.
Meanwhile, the report that will advise the government on what to do about the province’s dire fiscal situation will be released today.
The final report of the premier’s Economic Recovery Team will be unveiled by chair Moya Greene at noon.
The public can view Greene’s virtual announcement on the government’s YouTube or Facebook pages.
Speculation that the report will be rife with cuts, downsizing, and privatizing of public entities has dogged the government since the team was announced last fall.
An interim report that was due February 28th never did materialize.
Today’s final report was due April 30th.
